It's a fun, informative show when we get these two together on the Big Alaska Show!

Award winning author, Lolo Paige and our Science Guy, Dr. Gordon Snyder, join us to talk about Lolo's new romance novel, Alaska Inferno, and talk about overland wild fires.

HummingbirdAnnasHeadPoseGS4x6_8504.jpg

Perhaps the most underrated creature in nature, hummingbirds migrate 3,500 miles during the winter. Their high-tech construction allows them to maneuver like a helicopter with precision.
Our Science Guy, Dr. Gordon Snyder, takes us through a tutorial why he thinks they’re so amazing. Gordon posted videos he took with his iPhone of hummingbirds in slow motion.

Hummingbirds in Alaska?! Not only Southeast Alaska but even Southcentral and that never happens. Wrong!

Our Science Guy, Dr. Gordon Snyder, shares science and biology insights to give a better bird’s eye view about hummingbirds.

Find out how remarkable and surprisingly fierce these creatures are and why Gordon calls them “nature’s fighter pilots!

Our Labor Day Show - A Labor of Love!

Tara Reimer.png

Good show, peeps! Let’s get to the point. The Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, AK is a major Alaskan tourist attraction AND an important marine research science center. Alaskans love it. So when it came very close to closing its doors, possibly forever due to the pandemic, Alaskans showed up to raise BIG BUCKS to keep the doors open. But they need more and it’s worth it!

Gordon-Snyder-1MAR2019.jpg

Our guests, Dr. Tara Riemer, CEO/President of the Alaska SeaLife Center and our Science Guy, Dr. Gordon Snyder tell us why. Plus, they make it informative and fun! These science geeks love research, results and discovery. They know a good deal when they see one. They point out the Alaska SeaLife Center is more than a good deal, it’s a treasure!

Check out the podcast with Tara and Gordon – lots of fun. Plus, we even have a Tall Alaska Tale!

Remembering an Aviation Great

Marcus Paine and Mike Ford

Marcus Paine and Mike Ford

Marcus Paine was a bright star in Alaska’s aviation history. Had he lived in the 1920’s like the Wien Brothers, his name would be mentioned in the same breath.

We admired Marcus because he made aviation exciting sporting a joyful spirit and a warm smile to back it.  Sadly, we lost Marcus in air accident at a Madras, Oregon airshow, August 27, 2016.

We pulled from our archives an interview with Marcus shortly before his appearance at 2012 Arctic Thunder, the 5th largest air show in the world.

The Men Who Sold and Bought Alaska

Mike+Dunham+and+Books.jpg

Mike Dunham retired from 25 years broadcast career and 25 years newspaper career including Arts Editor for the Anchorage Daily News in Alaska. He then wrote two books,

The Man Who Sold Alaska and The Man Who Bought Alaska. Mike and I went to high school together and years later worked at KENI 650 AM radio in Anchorage, AK.

This was at a time Alaska was going through an economic crash which resulted in entertaining stories you will find here as well!
