Bears Waking Up!

Special Assistance to the Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Rick Rydell Green, talks about bears and coming out of hibernation. Rick's years as a hunting/fishing guide, self-avowed wildlife biology geek and longtime broadcaster, makes this interview fun about bear habits coming out of hibernation. He even tolerates our teenage mentality when it comes to certain bear colon habits of "blowing the plug"! Fun, informative interview!

Honoring Ed Koontz

With the passing of Ed Koontz, we aired an interview in his honor that we conducted in 2018 when Ed and his wife, Brenda, were part of an Honor Flight.

Ed was an Air Force veteran and Brenda had been in the Navy service. I first met Ed in1990 when I joined the Midnight Sons Barbershop Chorus. Ed was a Charter Member of the chorus and started singing barbershop with his first quartet in Japan in 1951 - almost 40 years before I joined! Ed was a wonderful lead and taught me a ton about a cappella/barbershop singing. We shared many barbershop memories filled with music, laughter and tons of fun!

MEMORIAL DAY WE HONOR VIPER END 22!

KYLE.jpg

Kyle Kasier and Gary Olson are at war with suicide in our veterans! They have a great weapon- VIPER!

VIPER, Veteran Internships Providing Employment Readiness, was created to fight the epidemic of 22 suicides that happen every day to our, mostly young, military men and women.

This innovative program provides training and education to transition veterans leaving the military into civilian life.

Often skills learned in the military are not readily transferable to civilian life making the transition scary and feeling hopeless.

This puts these people at risk for taking their lives. VIPER provides a way out and a path towards an exciting career.

Alaskans should be proud. Because VIPER started in Alaska and it’s catching on including outside Alaska!

Meet some of the VIPER volunteers and others supporting VIPER!
